This sums up all the reasons I feel lucky that Kurt Cobain was the first rock star to really make an impact on my life. When I was 10 years old, I could have fallen for a guy who objectified or talked down to women in his songs or someone who would have made me feel disgusting and unlovable for not being beautiful or even someone like Chris Brown, but instead I found a musician who worshipped The Raincoats and The Vaselines and got vocally pissed off and disgusted when people misunderstood his song “Polly” as pro-rape, who married a woman who basically everyone else thought was a crazy, loud-mouth bitch. Even though he was dead by the time I totally understood what he was about, I think Cobain made a huge positive impact on me. Perhaps for obvious reasons, he doesn’t get the “good influence” credit he deserves.
